A Different View..

I was tripping around Zagreb and wandered past this street sign, thinking it was a cute kind of joke or advertising. Then I actually walked past this Museum–an homage to defunct love affairs–comprised of gifts and unreturned (stolen?) items submitted by ex-lovers.  Each item had an accompanying letter from its donor, some celebratory, some in vengeful detail, others with deep regret. There for all to see, were the sorrows of love gone awry…yet the formality of this setting highlighted the privilege we all have to love, and the badges of honors accrued from walking through the fires of passion.  And then I found a man I could tell all my troubles to…

  7. I have a little story to tell about Suzanne a girl a song and my girlfriend in high school over forty years ago.Actually the story is more about the song Suzanne which I learned to sing in about 1972. My mother thought I had written it. I lived in Sydney at that time and had been in a band called Ulysses. It was 1970 and of course we got our name from the Cream song. Martin Sharpe who wrote the lyrics claimed he wrote them to the tune of Suzanne.
At that time inspite of my mothers confidence in my song writing my initial attempts were very limited. However I did began writing my own songs and I used to think it had something to do with the fact I was such a poor singer I couldn’t sing anyone else’s songs so I had to write my own. Anyway I read somewhere Leonard Cohen said he couldnt hold a tune (which made me laugh). All I could think when I read that was he sure knew how to write some great tunes for someone who didn’t think he could sing.
That man in the photo you tell your troubles to he might just lead to a new song or 2 or 3
I am so looking forward to hearing your new songs
    Thanks For The Dance.

    • ALL SUMMER LONG

And when the setting sun sinks beneath the horizon
And the moonlight air entrances everyone
We’ll dance across the stars counting every single one
And you’ll be here with me all summer long
Yeah you’ll be here with me all summer long

      And even when we’re wrong
      Or we’re not that strong
      We can contemplate our fate
      All summer long

And when the morning light obliterates the night
And the rising sun shows his face anon
We’ll let him state his case in magical embrace
To press against your lips stealing one more kiss
And you’ll be here with me in this dawn of bliss

      And even when you’re gone
      The memory lingers on
And you’ll be here with me
      All summer long

And when the burst approaches and lightning encroaches
To spark a mighty roar before the big downpour
On nature’s own reliance of danger and defiance
You’ll be here with me where nothing can go wrong
Yeah you’ll be here with me all summer long

      And even if we’re wrong
      Or we’re not that strong
      We can contemplate our fate
      All summer long

And when the setting sun sinks beneath the horizon
And the moonlight air entrances everyone
We’ll dance across the stars and frolic and have fun
And you’ll be here with me all summer long
Yeah you’ll be here with me all summer long

  8. Thanks for another wonderful post. Where else could anybody get that type of information in such an ideal way of writing? I have a presentation next week, and I’m on the look for such information.
